| Bio: | Character Name: Emmeline Philomena Vance Age/Birthdate: June 30, 1955 Wand: 11 ¼ inch maple wand, with a Hinkypunk leg at its center Bloodline: Pureblooded Why this character: I’ve played Emmeline a few times before and simply because of the usual lifespan of games (go great for a few months and then die a slow and painful death), I’ve never actually gotten to play her outside of school, or even in school past December. I like her a lot and the premise really caught my interest so I thought it would be fun to bring a character I think I know into a setting wholly different than when I usually play her. What is said about your character on the lexicon? If you changed canon facts, what did you change? Not much is known about Emmeline so I haven’t necessarily changed canon as much as fleshed out canon. She was with the Order during the first war and is described as stately and wearing a green shawl. She died in 1996, Snape giving information that led to her capture and murder. Look at the available/taken list and put which characters (at least ten names) that your character would interact or be familiar with Seeing as how she was in the Order, she would be on friendly terms with most everyone on it, particularly those in the First War, as she was much younger and I imagine much more open then: Sirius Black, Edgar Bones, Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore, Alice Longbottom, Frank Longbottom, Remus Lupin, Minerva McGonagall, Marlene McKinnon, James Potter, Lily Potter, Severus Snape, etc. Additionally, she would know any Order members of the Second War (like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Nymphadora Tonks, . Also, I like to envision Emmeline as a Slytherin, so any fellow alumni (such as Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy) from that era would know her very well through school interactions and outside social activities. Of course this list is incomplete, as it only includes characters that are currently in play. PB: Lauren Cohan Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. Personality: In one word: secretive. She values few things over her privacy and doesn’t like to divulge too much of her life. The funny thing is, she has very few secrets, nor many skeletons in the closet. She is just under the impression that people don’t want to get to know her, or that it’s not the appropriate time or place to talk about herself. As a result, if anyone wants to know her, they don’t realize that the easiest way to do it, is to ask her straightforward questions. Her silence makes others uncomfortable and assume the worst about her. She also values self-control at all times. She dislikes people who weep, scream, or yell in public, no matter what the occasion. She keeps her tightly locked up at all times. That’s not to say she’s emotionless. She’ll smile, frown, laugh. But cry? In front of people? Never. It’s not in her nature at all. So instead she plays the Ice Queen, and she plays it well. Family: Her father was Rinaldo Caine Vance, a Slytherin alumnus and Obliviator. Her mother was Cordelia Coral Arden, a Ravenclaw alumnus and employee of the International Magical Office of Law. She adored her mother up and cared for her constantly up until her death when Emmeline was just thirteen. Despite her closeness with her mother, Emmeline was very much her father’s daughter, sharing the same school House and outlook on life. She had no siblings and her few cousins didn’t live near them in England, so she hardly kept contact with them. Personal History: Emmeline’s father was a great deal older than her mother, meeting by chance through a mutual friend. Her mother’s health was always very fragile, taking a sharper turn after Emmeline’s birth, and declining rapidly. As her health deteriorated, the war grew worse, and suddenly the Healers they needed had their hands full with the latest victims of Death Eaters and were too busy to help a woman who was slowly dying. When she was in her third year, Cordelia Vance finally succumbed to her illness, leaving Emmeline distraught and angry at the war raging around them. She was always an overachiever, and no one was surprised when she was sorted into Slytherin. There she threw herself into her studies, determined to be the best of the best. She made Prefect every year, was the top student in all her testing, and finally culminated in being dubbed Head Girl, much to her and her father’s joy. While in Slytherin, she did hear whisperings of what people were saying, who they were siding with, but she paid them no heed. She had her own agenda and her own scheduling, and her own reasons why she thought the war shouldn’t have started. They were still her friends, mind you, but she couldn’t be around their talk, so she kept to herself (more than usual), and often spent time with her fellow Head Boy, Edgar Bones, and with Albus Dumbledore, who took it upon himself to ensure that the promising girl did not fall prey to the trappings of the Death Eaters. After school, she accepted a position in her mother’s old department, the International Magical Office of Law. While there, Dumbledore invited Emmeline to join the Order and she accepted heartily, her mother’s death still weighing heavily on her and now using her position in the Ministry to be on the lookout for information. She also used her contacts with many Slytherins to keep an eye out for who would be marked, and who was still on the fence. Often times she would have to get close to some of them, thereby putting a strain on her new relationship with Edgar Bones. After so many jealous arguments, she finally broke things off with him, struggling to keep her distance while still maintain a reasonable working relationship with him in the Order. When he later married someone else she was heartbroken but she kept her cool, like she always did, congratulating him and wishing him well. She didn’t cry over him again until she was told of his death. After much work and much sacrifice, the Order finally ended after the death of Voldemort and the Potters. With many of her close friends now passed on, Emmeline barely looked back as she walked away from the Order, and threw herself back into her work in the Ministry. It wasn’t until years later when Dumbledore came to her office again, asking her to join their ranks. She accepted the invitation once more, a little less heartily but with no less determination. She did her duties as best she could, protecting Harry Potter and trying to gather information from all her sources. When the Death Eaters came to her doorstep, in the early summer of 1996, she had to admit that she was afraid, finally, but she knew when to accept her consequences. She made this decision, and she would die by it. She would not beg for help or regret any of her choices. It was that old Slytherin pride: she did what she had to do and wasn’t going to apologize or regret anything she did; not even this. She tried her best not to give them satisfaction of her screams.
